Context
The Demandbase Tag sends company profile attributes to Custom Dimensions in Google Analytics (GA). A GA integration with Account ID Free Edition lets you take a deeper dive into the data using customized reports within GA.
Prerequisite
You must have GA Admin permissions to complete all steps.
Steps
1. Start the Account ID Free Edition setup wizard by clicking the link in the activation email that you received from Demandbase.
2. Obtain the Demandbase Tag and deploy it. The setup wizard generates a Demandbase Tag based on your input in the Website URL field. Copy the tag and incorporate it as described in Deploy the Demandbase Tag for Account ID.
3. Identify a unique GA Tracking ID and enter it in the setup wizard. Obtain a Tracking ID for the domain that you want to integrate with Demandbase. You can only enter one Tracking ID in the setup wizard. The Tracking ID is an identifier to direct the Demandbase Tag to the GA instance where you want the firmographic data sent.
4. In GA, set up Custom Dimensions for the Demandbase firmographic attributes you want to track. You need to create a Custom Dimension for each firmographic attribute that you want to receive from Demandbase. Do the following to set up Custom Dimensions:
a. Sign in to GA and navigate to the appropriate GA Property.
b. Click Admin and navigate to the property where you want to add Custom Dimensions.
c. In the Property column, go to Custom Definitions > Custom Dimensions.
d. Click + New Custom Dimension.
e. Enter a Name. Enter a unique name to avoid confusion with existing dimensions or metrics in your reports.
f. Set the Scope to Session.
g. Check Active to start collecting data and to see the dimension in your reports immediately. Uncheck Active to create the dimension as inactive.
h. Click Create to create the new dimension. If you are updating a dimension, click Save.
Important: GA Custom Dimensions are correlated to Demandbase attributes by index number, not by dimension name. If you make a mistake, rename the GA Custom Dimension or rearrange the Demandbase mapping.
5. Copy the Custom Dimension index number for each firmographic attribute and enter the numbers in the setup wizard. The Account ID Free Edition setup wizard prompts you to enter the Custom Dimension index numbers by the firmographic attributes that you want to track.
6. Click the Demandbase tag checker button in the setup wizard. After you select the Click here to check your tag button in the wizard, you discover if the Demandbase tag is successfully integrated with GA.
